The Oak Grove Union School District has a strong belief in developing the whole child through academic excellence, developing life skills, engagement with the arts, environmental stewardship, and celebrating diversity.

We at Acorn Preschool support this belief and concentrate on the unique needs of children in the two years before they enter grade school. These are critical years for developing social and emotional skills, gross and fine motor dexterity, as well as laying the foundation for reading and basic math skills.Acorn Preschool is a Pre-Kindergarten program for children ages 3 – 5 years old. The goal of the program is to provide the skills necessary for a smooth transition to kindergarten through play and an integrated academic program. Each child develops at a different rate, which is why our program and classroom are arranged to allow children to work with the materials that offer a variety of learning opportunities. Our child-centered play based curriculum is specially tailored to help your child develop the skills they need for a life-time of success.

Our school year program runs from mid August through mid June and our summer program runs from mid June through mid August. With all of this our goal is to nurture in children a love of learning and respect for themselves and others. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your family!

MISSION, VISION AND PHILOSOPHY

Mission:

Acorn Preschool, in partnership with our community, provides a safe, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment that enhances the physical, emotional, cognitive, creative, and social development of individual children through play based learning.

We are committed to:

Academic Excellence- providing the foundation for a love of learning

Development of Life Skills- supporting students as they develop their social emotional skills

Celebrating Diversity- valuing each child for their uniqueness & treating them as an individual

Engagement with the Arts - providing opportunities to explore different mediums and expand their creativity

Stewardship of the Environment- fostering a respect and appreciation of the natural world

Vision:
We strive to enrich every child’s experience by empowering them to develop at their own pace and encouraging them to foster a respect for themselves, others, and the natural world. In doing so, we envision our students as engaged members of the community, who will influence our world in positive ways.

Acorn Preschool Philosophy:

Acorn Preschool values teaching practices that enhance the development of children’s learning.  The Preschool, in addition to being committed to the School District’s overall mission, believes that:

   ● Every child possesses unique characteristics, develops at an individual rate, and exhibits an array of talents and interests regardless of family background, culture, home language, special need, experience, and ability.

   ● The program focuses on the four major developmental areas including language, cognition, physical, and social-emotional development.

  ● The program is driven by play, child-initiated and integrated through inquiry-based projects and interactive learning.

  ● Purposeful play is the essential vehicle for developing self-regulation as well as for promoting language, cognition, social emotional skills, and critical thinking

  ● Intentionally designed, nourishing, joyful, and stimulating indoor and outdoor classroom environments set the stage for successful exploration, learning, and development.

  ● Effective and intentional teacher-child interactions are the key component for creating a positive learning and developmental experience.

  ● Meaningful family engagement is essential for a successful early learning experience. Knowing each family and their culture will be key, as will cultural appreciation of diversity in the classroom, parent support, education, and opportunities for parent involvement and community building.
